Flipmodule Flipping |
|
I've looked quite extensively for information on this but found nothing conclusive, so apologies if this appears obvious to anyone.
Does the flip module correct the image so that what you see on your camera LCD is exactly what you see in the scene, or is it still horizontally flipped?
Firstly it is my understanding that the image coming through a lens will be both vertically and horizontally flipped. If you looked through a lens with your eye you would see
the image has been rotated 180 degrees, is this correct? Then usually the internals of a camera recording this image flip it back the way it should be and record it.
With the adaptor, when this image passes through the flip module it sounds like this horizontal flipping is not accounted for, so the flip module only deals with vertical flipping, correct?
So when using a flip module, what you will see on your camera LCD is the scene the correct way up but incorrect horizontally. So you pan right, the LCD screen shows you panning left.
The reason I ask is that I'm intending to use a SG Blade on a DVX100A and I can use the magnet trick to flip vertically very easily on the LCD.
With the non flip adaptor would this then be incorrect horizontally but correct vertically?
I'm really trying to determine whether or not I need the flip module. If, by using a magnet, I can achieve the same image on the LCD screen as the flip module would give me I would prefer to go without the flip module for now. However, if the flip module produces exactly what you see in the scene correctly on the LCD both horizontally and vertically I would go for the flip module.
Obviously the difference would be that with the magnet the footage would still need rotated in post, but this is a formality.
Thanks
Andrew

FlipMode flips horizontal the image for you in the camera. So you won't have to flip it in PP.
With the magnet you just see it flipped while shooting , but still will need to flip it later.
With NON flipped adapter - the same. Later flipping. /you can use the magnet/
SO flipmode is must have. if you don't want to make your work more complicated with flipped images to render.

Please confirm, the flipmodule flips the image BOTH horizontally and vertically. What you see on your camera LCD is what you see in the scene?
"With the magnet you just see it flipped while shooting , but still will need to flip it later. "
Yes, I stated that the image would still need to be flipped in post, this is not something I am worried about.
Thanks

Hi Arknox,
The FLIPmodule flips the image both horizontally and vertically (180 degree rotate) so that the image is in the correct orientation with no post flipping (in either direction) necessary.
